The cultural significance of the Black Panther film following its release in 2018 inspired the decision to design a Black Panther film exhibition for my BA Hons Interior Design final project. As a widely known, popular and recent film, much of the imagery in Black Panther is recognisable to the majority of the film going public.
The design challenge was therefore to translate the popular film, and its iconic imagery, into an exhibition that would communicate the narrative of the film, while also inspiring meaningful and impactful experience.
'Journey' framework
The solution was a framework in the form of a grid structure assembled from individual 400mm by 400mm nylon structural cubes, that would provide the overarching logic to visitors’ physical and perceptual journeys through the exhibition. Seven modules are hosted within the overarching structure, creating ‘Events’, spatio-temporal organisations in the architectural space that inspire contemplation about and investigation of the film narrative.
